Ledyard oak trees provide lots of shade and as a result, it is often hard to grow much color in our gardens. Sometimes shades of green with interesting textures and variety is good enough, as this Whalehead Road garden demonstrates.
The original Gales Ferry Library was built on Hurlbutt road in Gales Ferry Village in 1921. The library was staffed by volunteers until 1971. In 1974, a new library was built on Hurlbutt Road as an addition to the Gales Ferry Community Center.
This home, built in 1903, is located in Gales Ferry Village where Riverside Place meets the Thames River. It sits on the site of Stephen Hurlbutt’s coopers shop of 1753.
This 18th.century center chimney farmhouse on over 100 acres, still retains its orignal out-buildings. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places .
