In an effort to help Ledyard Neighbors, Holdridge Home and Garden Showplace is “raising” something new this month. They are raising the awareness of the needs of Ledyard neighbors by hosting a Charity Raffle to benefit the Ledyard Food Bank. Please bring your non-perishable food or toiletry items to the Ledyard store NOW through Sunday, November 22nd.
In return, for EACH item you donate, you will receive a chance to win one of several prizes provided by local neighbors and businesses* who have signed on to help!
Drawings begin at 3:00 on Sunday, November 22, 2009.
Let’s continue the “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” effort that was started at the Saving Alice Acres Event!! Stop by and enjoy cider, hot chocolate, doughnuts, and popcorn by donation. Some of your neighbors are counting on it!

Because of roof repairs and internal rain damage, the Gales Ferry 06335 Post Office was temporarily closed in October 2009 - blue box collection times have changed and NO ONE can get at their lobby mailboxes. Gales Ferry Post Office mailbox users now have to drive a 10-mile steep and winding round-trip to Ledyard Center 06339 Post Office to pick up their mail. Winter snow and ice make it particularly difficult, and it represents just over a dollar in gas each time - if one has a vehicle. Non-drivers are without access to their mailboxes. We have no public transport that connects the two parts of town. Rent on mailbox services relocated to Ledyard 06339 post office is still charged. This is a travesty for Gales Ferry businesses and individuals. It's been three months. No re-opening date is yet predicted; the people miss friendly interactions with the post office staff and neighbors as well as being deprived of a vital public service. This is costing the Gales Ferry community deeply.

Thank you for your comment! I plan to bring it up Wednesday night at the Ledyard Town Council meeting. We have no authority over them but at least they could give us some answers.
