One of the perks of being on the Ledyard Town Council is having a front row seat for Ledyard High School graduation ceremonies. Each one makes its own memories and I’ll remember the 2012 graduation for three things. The first was that graduation was held on a Saturday. No one seems to remember that a Saturday graduation has ever happened before. Second, one ominous cloud and the wind during the first quarter (we were on the football field) made it hard to even hold on to my iPhone. As a result, my photos are not exactly sharp and more than one mortar board took flight. Finally, it was the last graduation of retiring Principal Lou Gabordi who gave a speech that among other gems encouraged members of the class to consider running for public office to help change the current climate of political discourse. Well said, Mr. Gabordi.
