Mystic Farmers Market

Sugar Maple FarmsI decided to take advantage of Sunday’s perfect weather by visiting the Mystic Farmers Market, my third farmers market this month. The market is located across from the Denison/Pequotsepos Nature Center at 120 Pequotsepos Road in Mystic. The market is opened from noon until 3:00PM and I found there to be no problem parking despite the good crowd wen I arrived around 12:30. Like many of our small farmers markets in the area, there was a good variety of organic and pesticide free produce as well as eggs, meat and cheese. I was delighted that Burton’s Farm in Ledyard were there with my very favorite big and meaty tomatoes. I’m probably in the minority but heirloom tomatoes which seem to be in fashion these days do nothing for my taste buds although they sure are interesting looking.

There were more than a dozen booths and I bought cucumbers, arugula, peppers, and zucchini in addition to a half dozen tomatoes, but my favorite treat came from Sugar Maple Farms of Lebanon, CT. Their Maple Butter was a nice addition to my bagel this morning for breakfast. That purchase alone made it worth the trip.
