The Bozrah Farmers Market

Bozrah Farmer's market 3I recently finished reading two enjoyable books,  “Animal, vegetable, Miracle” by Barbara Kingsolver and “Gaining Ground: a Story of Farmers’ Markets, Local Food, and Saving the Family Farm” by Forrest Pritchard. Since reading them, I have become an even bigger fan of eating locally grown food and am a regular at the Ledyard Farmers Market.

Yesterday, my husband and I decided to attend the Bozrah Farmers Market. This market isn’t as large as the Coventry  Market farther up the highway but parking and traffic isn’t a problem like it is in Coventry. My first purchase was cheese made fresh at Meadow Stone Farm. I love cheese of every kind but my husband likes it mild and their Gentleman Farmer Blue Cheese fit his taste buds. They packed the cheese I purchased into a lunch size cooler bag being given out free by the market this week. I was a happy camper and became an instant fan of this market.

I quickly filled my own bag with vegetables and fruit, checking out each of the over 30 vendors located in a comfortable to walk level grassy field.  Everyone was helpful and friendly and answered several of my city-kid questions. After an enjoyable 45 minutes of shopping, we headed home with some yummy pulled pork sandwiches for supper and plenty of local grown food for the week ahead.

The Bozrah Farmers Market is held at Maples Farm Park located at 45 Bozrah Street and will run every Friday through October 11th from 4-7pm
