Snow and Sidewalks in Ledyard

It has been a tough winter in Eastern CT. I personally know two seniors in Ledyard who have slipped on black ice in their driveways and ended up with broken bones. There has been a good bit of chatter on the Ledyard Facebook Forum about businesses keeping their sidewalks cleared of ice and snow. Without naming names, let me just say that some of our local chain businesses are not performing well when it comes to clearing away the snow and ice.
On the personal responsibility side, Ledyard doesn’t have many sidewalks in town. In fact, we have very few. But there are rules in the form of Ordinance #77 that deal with the responsibility of maintaining side walks in town. You will find it by clicking HERE.
I am sure most seniors if they ask someone would help them out with driveway and sidewalks if they had one.
Businesses on the other hand that is apart of the owning a business. Typically where there are sidewalks they are there for a reason and that is public safety. When people start walking the road is when I get concerned.
