This Week at the Ledyard Farmers' Market

Ledyard Farmers Market squash

I know that local farmers can really use the rain but we are hoping that the much needed rain will come and go before the Ledyard Farmers’ Market on Wednesday. The market is held rain or shine but not during thunderstorms.

Weather permitting, bring your lawn chairs and listen to this week’s market entertainment.  "Craig Edwards plays a broad range of American roots music: traditional fiddle styles including Appalachian old-time, blues, bluegrass, Cajun, Cape Breton, Irish, and Swing. honky-tonk, rockabilly, and swing,"

Here is what you will find this week at the Ledyard Farmers’ market:

Lucky Girl Bakery will be bringing an assortment of small, large, and hand pies, PoPTarts, handmade marshmallows, and pumpkin whoopie pies! As always, feel free to get in touch to place an order for pick up at the market, or to have something set aside for you if you won't arrive until later.

Oak Leaf Dairy will have chevre, cheddar ( aged & fresh curds) feta, marinated feta, caramel,
goat milk soaps and their ever so popular woollies. They will also have farm fresh eggs.

Stonington Beef will be fully restocked for the market:  Ground beef, ribeyes. sirloin and porterhouse just to name a few.

Lori from D&L BURTON FARM will have lots of tomatoes this week at the market. Talk to her about putting in an order for sauce tomatoes. My sauce from last week’s tomatoes came out yummy!

squash18th Century Purity Farms has been harvesting lots of vegetables this week including their popular Zephyr squash

You’ll find sandwich breads, sweet breads and cookies from Breads N Cookies. The stand will also offer Wildflower Honey plus Maple Syrup from Sugar Maple Farms.

Dragon’s Blood Elixir will be at the market and it is always fun to see what sauces they have been magically brewing in their kitchens.

Start your Holiday Shopping early!  Pine Hill Alpaca Farm will be bringing beautiful Alpaca yarn, felt insoles, hand woven scarves, bird nesting balls and felted soap. All of the alpaca yarn and fiber comes from their own Alpaca herd. Breakfast cookies

Connecticut Gourmet will have their popular artisanal breads like cheese/olive. Stop by to see what else they have been baking this week. Last week I bought some delicious breakfast cookies. They were awesome with my coffee and contained all kinds of good stuff like apricots, figs, cranberries, strawberries, raisins, oats, and sunflower seeds..

Sage Hill Farm will have a small supply of their organic eggs, good looking vegetables, as well as their canned goods selection. Okra was the big hit last week!

Finally, regular vendor Zest will be there with their always mouth watering treats!

What’s cooking in YOUR kitchen after a visit at the Farmers’ Market?

Sage Hill FrattataSage Hill suggests this pictured kale and feta frittata. They used Sage Hill kale, onions, garlic, tomatoes and farm fresh eggs along with Oak Leaf Dairy’s feta.

A recent visitor to the Niantic market shared a simple recipe of a quick mix of good stuff including the Sun dried tomato goat cheese from Oak Leaf Dairy: corn, heirloom tomato, parsley, basil, olive oil, and butter.

Rain or shine (but not thunderstorms) I hope to see you at the market.
