On Opening Day of the NEW Ledyard Farmers' Market over 600 visitors were clicked through the main entrance. It is estimated that another 200 visitors wandered in from other entrances. We believe it was a huge success with several vendors selling out of their products (they will bring more next week) and many many children taking advantage of our numerous kids activities.
There were two food trucks, Supreme Hot Dogs and Yoko Loko, plus ice cream, pies, and other sweet treats as well as cheese and wine. Local artisans brought handmade goods. (I love the soap from Kettlepot.) Community groups like the Ledyard Garden Club, Ledyard Fire Company and SCRRRA came out to join the festivities. It's still early in the season but the market had two produce vendors and I've been promised that more produce will be coming soon as everything now growing becomes more plentiful. The strawberries sold out FAST but picking has just begun.
A lot of time and effort went into rebuilding the market. I'm just a small part of the efforts. I serve as Town Council Liaison plus I do the group's Facebook promotions. It sure was rewarding to see the happy vendors and the smiling faces. I sure hope you will come back next week as we continue to prove to you that the Ledyard Farmers' Market is the place to be on Wednesday afternoons!
