Little Bites of Ledyard

Bites of LedyardLittle Bites of Ledyard is a compilation of Ledyard news, events and items of interest in the Ledyard Community. Not enough for a blog post but just a bite with direct links to more information!  This week I have news about upcoming Ledyard Town Meetings, the Ledyard Food Pantry and of course the Ledyard Farmers Market.

The Town Council meetings for the week beginning September 18, 2016 can be accessed on the Accela (IQM2) Web Portal . Meetings are open to the pubic.

Rolling Tomato and Munchies food trucks will both be at the Ledyard Farmers Market on Wednesday. Perfect timing to grab dinner!  You will find market information plus a list of all the vendors in this week’s market newsletter.

I launched the Friends of the Ledyard Food Pantry this week on Facebook.  While the Town of Ledyard encourages donations of basic foodstuffs to the Ledyard Food Pantry, "Friends of the Ledyard Food Pantry" was created to provide and encourage the donation of additional food options, personal care items and household products. The pantry is opened on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9-11AM as well as Thursday from 5-7PM. Signing up as a friend is free and you will be updated with latest news and activities of the Ledyard Food Pantry.

Speaking of the Ledyard Food Pantry, starting Monday, September 19 and lasting until September 30, the Ledyard Public Libraries will be accepting items for the Ledyard Food Pantry in lieu of fines.

Little Bites of Ledyard

Bites of LedyardLittle Bites of Ledyard is a compilation of Ledyard news, events and items of interest in the Ledyard Community. Not enough for a blog post but just a bite with direct links to more information!  This week I have news about the Ledyard Regional Visiting Nurse Agency, the next Ledyard Town Council Meeting, Joining Night for the Ledyard Cub Scouts and Wednesday’s Farmers Market

Healthcare today is rapidly changing and Ledyard Regional Visiting Nurse Agency is changing with it. Many Ledyard residents don’t know about the Town Nurses or that they make home visits. The only thing you have to do is ask for your Ledyard nurses from your doctor or hospital/nursing home discharge planner. If you don’t, due to the competitiveness that now exists in healthcare, another agency will be sent to your home. Here is a testimonial:

“Excellent, excellent care. Nikki, Brenda and Krista exceeded all expectations. My only regret is that I did not take the time to do this earlier. Ledyard VNA provides a much needed service and are to be commended. I thank them for all they do.” -  Claire Murphy - Ledyard

Ledyard Town Hall AnnexLedyard MEETING NOTICE: The Ledyard Town Council meets Wednesday, September 14th at 7:00PM at the Town Hall Annex. Items on the agenda include Letters of Commendation from Police Chief John Rich, a Library Commission Report from John Bolduc and a vote on end of Fiscal Year 2015-201 budget transfers as well as a vote on the replacement of the existing Town Hall boilers to propane units.

Ledyard Cub Scout Joining Night will be held at Gallup Hill School or Ledyard Center School from 6-8PM on September 14th This is an opportunity to learn about Cub Scouts and what it has to offer. Open to boys entering grades K-5. You do not need to come right at 6 or for the whole time.

My favorite Turkey Pot Pie and Turkey Salad will be offered by Ekonk Hill Farm Wednesday Night at the Ledyard Farmers Market!  You’ll find all the information in their Newsletter.

Little Bites of Ledyard

Bites of LedyardLittle Bites of Ledyard is a compilation of Ledyard news, events and items of interest in the Ledyard Community. Not enough for a blog post but just a bite with direct links to more information!  This week I have news about Ledyard Trash Pickup, the Ledyard Farmers Market, Ledyard Libraries and the Ledyard Fair.

Ledyard Trash Talk from the Public Works Director – I posted this message from the Ledyard Public Works Director on the Ledyard Community Forum on Facebook. Many people were surprised about the information about plastic bags and the pizza boxes.   “By way of an important reminder, plastic bags are NOT acceptable for recycling and should NOT be placed in the blue cart. This has been observed to be a widespread issue. If it is your practice to collect acceptable recyclables in plastic bags, they must be emptied from the bags into the blue cart and the bags reused or disposed of as trash. Also, soiled paper and cardboard, such as greasy pizza boxes, are not acceptable as recyclable. Any portion of such items that is soiled must be disposed of as trash (e.g., the clean portion of pizza boxes may be separated from the soiled portion and placed in the blue cart with the soiled portion going in the trash cart).”

Due to the Ledyard Fair taking place on the Fairgrounds, the Ledyard Farmers Market will be on the grassy area between the Bill Library and the Ledyard Congregational Church. Some Market hours, same Market day, just a different Market location. This is for one week only. On Sept. 14 they will be back on the Fairgrounds as normal.  Here are some of the Vendors you will find at the market.

The Friends of the Ledyard Libraries are holding their  Annual Book Sale with paperbacks, hardcover fiction, and many, many categories of non-fiction books. They also have puzzles, games, DVDs, CDs and books on CD. There are a few select VHS tapes as well. Here’s the schedule:
