Little Bites of Ledyard

Bites of LedyardLittle Bites of Ledyard is my gathering place for events, news items and even an occasional opinion about anything Ledyard.

Wednesday in Ledyard is my favorite day of the week.  Here is the link to everything you need to know about this week’s Ledyard Farmers’ Market.  Sign up for your own copy of the market newsletter HERE.

Also on Wednesday, The Ledyard Town Council has set a Public Hearing at 6:30PM in the Council Chambers to receive comments and recommendations regarding a proposed "Ordinance Creating a Town of Ledyard Police Department". You will find all the information under new business at this LINK.

The Ledyard Historical Society has a wonderful collection of old photos of Ledyard in their Online Photo Galleries.

Due to an increase in need, the food pantry is getting low on certain supplies. They need more cereal, peanut butter, jelly, canned fruit, quick oats, sugar, kids snacks, coffee, tea, condiments, spaghetti-o’s and such in a can, baked beans, rice, tuna, macaroni and cheese and toiletries (tooth paste, soap, shampoo, conditioner etc.) With your generosity of these specific items as well as supplies from Gemma Moran, this should get us to the major food drive by the boy scouts later this year. (Drop off anytime at Ledyard Social Services - lower level Town Hall or to Mark in the Mayor's Office)

Ledyard Children’s Day will be held this year on Saturday, September 26th at Colonel Ledyard Park from 1:00-3:00PM. The afternoon offers a Moonwalk, Crafts, Pumpkin Painting, Entertainment and food. This free event is sponsored by the Ledyard Parks and Recreation Department and the Ledyard Lion's Club.

My opinion:  I love social media. Ledyard has many groups including the one I administer. As an administrator, I feel an obligation to correct or delete information that is inaccurate. I wish there was a fact check button built into Facebook.

Cub scouts is open to all boys in grades 1-5. If you think you might be interested or have questions, stop by this informal informational session beginning at 6:00PM on the evening of September 16th at both Gallup Hill School and Ledyard Center School. . Stay for a minute or until the end. There will be a short activity the kids can do while the adults chat. Boys in grades 6-12 can join Boy Scouts.

The 70th running of the Ledyard Fair has come and gone. Kudo’s to the volunteers who work tirelessly year round to ensure a safe and fun environment. I hope next year the committee will reconsider their decision to put some community groups in isolated locations.  Seeing Henna Tattoos and a Tarot Card Reader in two of the best locations on the Fair Grounds was a little discouraging and certainly didn’t demonstrate what the Town of Ledyard offers.

Just a reminder that THIS week is recycle week and Ledyard’s trash carrier picks up every other week.  It seems that some people haven’t gotten the message quite yet.
